Washington, D.C. – The Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund (AEF)
announced today that Jacinta S. Ma, Director of Policy and Advocacy of National Immigration
Forum, will receive this year’s AEF Community Service Award at the 2019 Benefit Dinner. The
Benefit Dinner will be held on March 7, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Ronald Reagan Building and
International Trade Center, Washington, D.C.
AEF awards the Community Service Award every year to recognize the work of an organization
or individual who has tirelessly served the Asian Pacific American (APA) community in the
greater Washington, D.C. area. “We are honored to have Ms. Ma as the recipient of this year’s
AEF Community Service Award not only because of her important work at the National
Immigration Forum during this pivotal time in which immigration issues are at the forefront of
national discourse, but also because of her steadfast commitment to the APA community,
exemplified through her service as a board member of the Asian Pacific American Legal
Resource Center,” said Enoch Chang, AEF Director.
Originally from Southern California, Ms. Ma graduated from the University of California,
Berkeley, and earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law. Prior to joining the
National Immigration Forum, she served as deputy director of Asian Americans Advancing
Justice in Washington, D.C., senior advisor to Commissioner Stuart J. Ishimaru of the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, and legal policy associate at The Civil Rights Project at
Harvard University. Chinh Q. Le, the Legal Director of the Legal Aid Society of the District of
Columbia, said, “Jacinta embodies community service. She has dedicated her career to serving
others, improving society, and fighting for fairness and justice, especially for communities of
color, immigrants, and Asian Pacific Americans.”
“I am thrilled and deeply honored to accept this year’s AEF Community Service Award. As a
long-time supporter of AEF’s tremendous work, this award is particularly meaningful,” said Ms.
Ma, the recipient of the 2019 AEF Community Service Award.
AEF is celebrating its quarter-century history of giving at the 2019 Benefit Dinner, where Ms.
Ma will be honored as the Award recipient. AEF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization
established by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) of the Greater
Washington, D.C. Area in 1993 to engage exclusively in charitable and educational activities.
Funding for AEF comes from generous donations from national corporations, law firms,
individuals, and the Annual Benefit Dinner. Full details about the 2019 AEF Benefit Dinner can
